The Neighborhood X Labs (NXL) Innovation Lab, in partnership with Stanford Medicine (Health Equity Education) and the San Francisco Planning Department, is a third-space research and innovation hub connecting students and researchers to real-world challenges in healthcare, urban planning, design, and development.
Through a cross-campus, research-driven model, NXL translates academic insight and place-based intelligence into college-ready pipelines, portfolio-building experiences, and practical pathways at the intersection of health, design, policy, and community systems—strengthening communities through informed leadership and applied learning.

We leverage the latest technologies to enhance the learning experience for our students. Our online platform allows students to access course materials, communicate with instructors, and collaborate with peers from anywhere in the world. We also use cutting-edge tools such as virtual reality and gamification to make learning more engaging and interactive.

Neighborhood X Labs (NLX) builds college-ready pipelines with Stanford School of Medicine and the San Francisco Planning Department, preparing future doctors, healthcare leaders, planners, and architects to design stronger communities.

The NLX Conversation Lab is the heart of the Neighborhood X Labs model, an anti-poverty third space where research meets real life, and real life shapes policy, systems, and pathways to wealth and health.
This is not a panel.
Not a lecture.
Not a town hall.
Why Conversation Labs Matter
Poverty persists when data is disconnected from lived reality and policy is made without community intelligence. Conversation Labs close that gap — translating research into shared understanding, and shared understanding into actionable pathways.
